There's something for everyone this weekend, with lots of big events.

  • The Lion King, which opened Thursday, runs through Oct. 21 at Fair Park Music Hall. The Broadway musical is perfect for the whole family.
  • For more family-friendly fun, check out the Plano Balloon Festival at Oak Point Park through Sunday.
  • It's the first weekend of fall, and that means Addison Oktoberfest. The 20th annual celebration of German food and beverages offers live music, carnival rides and midway games, arts and crafts, yodeling and more. Check out more food festivals here.
  • Robert Earl Keen opens Saturday for the Dave Matthews Band at Smirnoff Music Centre. Ticketmaster says it's all sold out, but if you've got tickets, let us know how it was.

I was very disappointed with the Dave Matthew's concert. I've previously attended several of the group's concerts in the east, especially VA, and enjoyed his song selection much more than last night's play list. It appeared that the group was more interested in playing longer jam sessions for their own enjoyment vs. the paying customers desire to hear tunes DMB grew successful playing.

I was at Dave last night and enjoyed it very much. The set list seemed very similar to a slimmed down Central Park concert. I thought it was much better than last year but not the year before that.

We were very disappointed with the concert as well. In fact, we left early. The covered seating was hot and smoky. Why they turned the fans off after Robert Earl Keen (best part of the show) is beyond me. And the dude holding the infant should have been taken out by CPS. Why on earth would someone subject a baby to that kind of noise?

For me, this was the worst concert I have ever been to. I guess according to one poster, I am a DMB lite fan. I went to hear DMB perform the songs I love to hear, the ones that made him famous and able to sell out concerts. I waited 3 LONG hours to hear them and I heard 2, and those were not my favorites. I expect a band to go into a long jam one song, maybe 2, but every one, I was bored out of my head! The clincher for me was on the encore, the crowd did not respond, probably because they did not recognize the song, I know I didn't. We left early along with a lot of other people. There were empty seats everywhere. Why did they turn off the fans, it was so hot and smokey!! I will never see a DMB concert again. He clearly caters to his hard core fans only.
